Window seat clot

A recent study has said something that could strengthen the cross winds of Airlines after they felt a calm weather period when the oil prices recent came down.
Top news reports- Recent study revealed that person sitting on the window seat faces double risk of developing a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) as compared to those sitting on the aisle or in a middle seat. A DVT clot can cause death if it passes through a passenger's bloodstream to the lungs, causing pulmonary embolism. So it is advisable for obese people to sit in the middle or aisle seat.
Now a health conscious passenger will buy a non-window seat, which could make the window seats practically empty. But on the other side the window seats could get cheaper and it could be bliss for photographers looking for quick snaps.

Tackling this health blooper would be tough for airlines.

Smoking Sting operation

Campaigning could be the worst or probably the best show of mud slinging and Lok Sabha polls are bringing out the seasoned and the new kids on the bloc on the big stage. Smoking has been officially banned at all public places in New Delhi and a BJP councilor didn't hesitate in doing a quick smoking sting operation.

Former Delhi mayor and Congress councillor Farhad Suri was on Thursday caught flouting his government’s stringent steps to ban smoking in public places, when a BJP councillor Rekha Gupta caught him smoking in the Town Hall.

Gupta caught Suri smoking outside the MCD House meeting hall and complained to mayor Arti Mehra.

“Smoking in public places is not allowed and being a councillor he should set an example for the people and not indulge in breaking laws. We want that an enquiry be initiated against him and he should be fined as per law,” said Gupta. - Hindustan Times

Orchestrated drama ?

The Lok Sabha polls are around the corner and the BJP camp has begun aggressive campaigning to woo the voters. At such a time out of no where comes a fanatical organization and thrashes up innocent people in Mangalore creating a national outcry and rage. In the name of Lord Ram, a group associated to BJP went ahead as the moral police and bashed up people partying in a pub in broad daylight. BJP goes ahead and disowns the sena. Now the swiftness through which the job has been done makes me feel that something is not as white-Black in the BJP camp. Was this drama orchestrated to show a non-fanatic side of BJP or was this a move gone horribly wrong. Starting early can have its positives and the negatives and with BJP in spotlight over this issue can make it a champion or immature move.

Looking at the downside it might strengthen nations view of a fanatic-nationalistic-violent party and as seen in the assembly elections incumbency and development might again be the high tide in an already tumultuous time.

BJP learned from the Obama campaign and went for a strong online campaign but the deeper things might just be missing out. Obama focussed on economic policies, bail outs and a non-violent, anti Iraq war approach. These things have been missing in the campaign today and what happened in the Delhi assembly elections might take BJP by surprise another time.

Jealous or hurt ?

Slumdog Millionaire is into trouble as the doggie 'dog' of the title has managed to 'hurt the sentiments' of slum dwellers in Patna.

Slum dwellers in Patna city held protests against Oscar-nominated film Slumdog Millionaire, demanding the film's makers remove the word dog from the title.

The protesters said their sensibilities had been offended by the title, which they said was abusive of people who live in slums. The city has witnessed protests ever since the film was released in India last Friday. - NDTVMOVIES.com

The funny part is that a petition has been filed against Anil Kapoor and A R Rahman. Seems another group of people want some mileage out of Danny Boyle's marvel.

Grandma 2009

"He is good you are Bad"- This was a phrase I heard from the grand old ladies and sometimes men who had nothing to do in their old age. When people get old they de facto become the gyanis, but over the years it seems a few lightning strikes have caused younger men to takeup the role of Grandma.
One person that refuses to stay out of news is Mr Ambumani Ramadoss, our honorable health minister. SRK is on his radar again.

HT reports
"Creative liberty should be used to improve society and not kill mankind", Ramadoss said in response to a query on public icons supporting smoking on screen as their right to creative liberty.

"Look at Taare Zameen Par", he said, saying the film has helped in changing the mindset of thousands of teachers and parents in looking at the problem of dyslexia.
I partially agree with what Mr Ramadoss says about Aamir, but taking digs all the time is a waste of newspaper space. Too much of gyan and too little action can sometimes become irritating. I wish to see more hygiene in the public toilets of Delhi as their loud tintinnabulations can be heard(smelled) miles away. OK! if thats too much atleast clean up the ones outside AIIMS.

Get well soon

This pic on the HT website caught my attention today. It is the most unconventional way of saying Get Well Soon I've seen recently.

Our unflagging PM needed medical attention and although his role as PM seems quite abstract apart from the ancillary 'V' he shows to the arrayed photographers, I hope he gets well soon for a busy season ahead.

PM aspirations #4

This time its is the BCCI chairman Sharad Pawar, the chief of NCP getting geared up for the PM's post. Shiv Sena has played its cards well by announcing that Sharad Pawar will be its prime ministerial candidate. I wonder how Raj Thackeray will react to this.

Earlier it was the congress trying to divide the Sena parivar by leaving the chain loose for Raj and his supporters to create chaos in Maharashtra and now it is Sena back at congress by lifting Sharad Pawar. But, there could be a twist in the tale. Bal Thackeray has carefully played the move but the pawn, rather king they are playing with is a seasoned and shrewd politician. I think this could backfire at the most crucial stage in elections that could lead to further rift in party.

Previous posts on PM Aspirations

Is Mint in trouble ?

Is HT Mint in trouble ? Firstly it was the pressure on news media by recession, which resulted in some ambitious projects being halted. What followed was a controversy caused by an article "letter to PM" published in mint, that resulted in the expulsion of Raju Narisetti as the editor in chief. The latest blow comes from Vir Sanghvi, who criticizes HT Mint of being hypocrites. He writes in his blog
So why am I stopping the column?

It's quite simple. I will not write for a publication that censors its columnists and denies them the right to free speech while writing long, impassioned pieces about the freedom to criticize others from the Prime Minister downwards. All of us exhibit double standards to some degree. But Mint's hypocrisy takes my breath away. Read

Meanwhile Monika Halan, the former editor of outlook money resigned because of the intrusion of management into the edit section and her unhappiness over the awards.

Looking at the disappointment of many journos over the intrusive management, I think the time is right for them to start a journal that contains uncensored and free thoughts. Remember the story of Lamborghini.

No frictions between Advani and Modi

A few days back there was a line of supporters of Mr Narendra Modi which included top industrialists like Anil Ambani, Ratan Tata, Sunil Bharati Mittal. They were all praise for Narendrabhai, but knowingly or unknowingly they sowed the seeds of rift in BJP by declaring Mr Modi as the best PM candidate. After this episode, the blood hounds of media began circling L K Advani and Narendra Modi and could have caused more problems like the BSS and Kalyan Singh issue.

Now Mr Advani has come up with an answer through his blog. He says "he (Narendra Modi) exemplifies the BJP’s commitment to Good Governance, Development and Security."

His blog post that praises Mr Modi is another indication of his nod at the choice of PM candidate. The question he does not answer is "Why not Mr Modi as PM candidate for BJP ?". Mr Advani later writes

It is amusing to find these days some sections of the media hostile to the BJP labouring hard to discern even in the Vibrant Gujarat event evidence of differences in the BJP.

I can only recall what I had said at a New Delhi press conference I had addressed shortly after our splendid victory in the Gujarat Assembly polls.

A lady correspondent had posed me the question. “Don’t you think Narendra Bhai is now becoming larger than the party? My reply to her query was: “It often happens in a family that a younger member records an achievement which no one else has made earlier. This only makes the whole family proud. The family never feels diminished on that account.”"

There is no smoke without fire but I'd say among all the other recent cases of mismanagement within the BJP, this one has been handled better.

Sleep another day

You might "Die another day" if the pilots don't sleep today.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has issued guidlines that the crew must chat with pilots every 30 minutes to keep them awake. WTF! This warning has come after a few domestic airlines deviated from the flight path and some crossed their destinations because of sleeping pilots.

Imagine that during a flight from Bengaluru to Amritsar, the pilot falls asleep and the plane reaches Pakistan. That could have caused an international embarrassment for India, triggered a nuclear war or even could have caused the shooting down of the plane.

Better the airlines keep a check and recruit more pilots, else another can of worms might open up like that of Mr Ramalinga Raju. If they don't mend ways an aviation disaster could be in the making.

Raju conned politicians

Now another overweight middle aged politician has been caught in the net of scams and fraud. This time it is the deputy of Kerala's CM V S Achuthanandan, Pinarayi Vijayan. This one is comparatively smaller than Mr Ramalinga Raju's big whale that engulfed more than Rs 7000 crore.

Normally politicians have been associated with corruption, frauds and scandals with many names including Rajiv Gandhi, laloo Prasad and many others being involved/framed (God alone knows). Out of the people who conned India there came a bigger man(part of the community called common man) who outsmarted politicians and virtually conned them. Mr Ramalinga Raju initially had good terms with Chandrababu Naidu and played with him as being the cyber man. Chandrababu Naidu presented Mr Raju to the then US president, Bill Clinton as the face of 'Cyberabad'. The bad luck surrounding Mr R Raju was so strong that Chandrababu Naidu lost the elections. Then came the turn of Y S Rajashekhara Reddy. Mr Y.S.R Reddy was made the pawn by the real estate card of the great conman. It turns out that the current scam and Mr Raju's admission might just drown Mr YSR Reddy's government in the high tide. Imagine a person shrewd enough to con two politicians. Damn good! but evil.

If laloo was Obama

ET has come up with some really hilarious pictures of Indian politicians if they sported a Barack Obama hairstyle. The funniest one was that of Mayawati.

Although many Indian politicos seemed to have been quite inspired by Barack Obama , two major thing that separate them, apart from ideology - their hair colour and physique. All of our politicians are above 50 and the more seasoned ones making buzz by flip-flopping are 60+. If they sport the Obama look they could be very powerful endorsers of a hair dye brand. And when one comes to their physique some things are better unsaid.

Slumdog is on the Oscar list

The top categories of Oscars have got two Slumdog Millionaire nominations, one for best picture and the other for best director, making it a special achievement in terms of Indian Achievement in Oscars.

The fact that A R Rahman is nominated in 3 categories out of 10 Slumdog Millionaire nominations makes it even more special.

We've had a lot of talk about the Oscars after Lagaan managed to make the cut to the nomination stage for the best foreign film category. Apart from that the more recent quarrel between "Munnbhai-Gandhigiri" and Rang De Basanti over which goes to the oscars made the academy awards an even more talked about event.

Bollywood and Oscars share the same relation, which Tollywood or Bhojpuri cinema shares with Bollywood. A lot of wannabes and a little bit of genuine talent gets added, but keeps the whole equation more or less similar.

A billion plus population but so less on talent that we need foreigners to hold our fingers to take up to the big stage in creative medium. A situation similar to the Olympics. I don't want to take the credit away from the master piece of Danny Boyle but watching movies like Chandni Chowk 2 China, Rab ne Banadi Jodi that come from the top brass of Bollywood makes me feel we are still kings in our own little jungle. (although few aberrations like that of Aamir still exist)

Miliband goes astray

British foreign secretary David Miliband went off-key with his statements on a speech delivered on the Mumbai Terror attacks.
Sify reports Foreign Secretary David Miliband's controversial speech in Mumbai last week and his tactlessness while dealing with his Indian counterpart has even surprised people in the British establishment.
Looking at the incoherence of talk on terror between two nations and the representatives of one nation, it seems that the terror organizations will rule the roost. It is strange how an official of such high level can be wrong with facts. Although mistakes happens as it did with Barack Obama when he fumbled his oath taking ceremony, but discorded statements can lead to bad relations.

On the other hand it surprises me that even our politicians can get angry. Had they been over Mumbai terror, we would have seen some concrete action and not a flood of quotes. It could be just another political gimmick to show their concern or the lack of it for India.

As for Miliband, I think the all the staged drama of Rahul Gandhi and he going to a Dalit house could have changed his statements. As far as this sound byte of Miliband is concerned, it might just go a bit longer.

Dr Manmohan Singh and his license

Getting license in Delhi means bribing the officers, going not once but many times to the RTO and trying your luck. I was lucky to have got it done the first time, but many of my family members just happened to go on an off day. Dr Manmohan Singh did the right decision by going to the RTO on sunday. He saved the income in form of bribes of many corrupt officers.

Hindu reports
The Prime Minister had gone to the RTO at Indraprastha in central Delhi to renew his driving license that had expired 45 days ago but he made one concession to security by choosing a Sunday to go there along with his wife Gursharan Kaur, who also renewed her license.

Another good thing is that he saved the time loss caused due to his cavalcade on a regular day. Maybe some politicians can learn from him.

I am not happy

With the recent string of killings of Indians in US, despite all the hue and cry about Barack Obama and the celebration of the bygone racist era, I still think racist abuse is behind the murders of Indians in US.

HT reports

The body of Akshay Vishal, an employee of fraud-hit Satyam Computer Services Limited who was on contract with US company Jet Falcon, has been sent for autopsy. His company has also undertaken to send the body back to India.
The 26-year-old engineer was allegedly shot by some unidentified gunmen on Tuesday while he was getting into a car. Profusely bleeding, he was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Vishal is the seventh person from Andhra Pradesh to be killed in the US since December 2007.

Is US safe for Indians, especially students ?

Power, Politics and Family

"Politics is dirty"- Very few might not agree with this statement. Families can fight (Sanjay Dutt), kill (Mahajans) and throw stuff dirtier than cow dung at their own blood. All this for the evilest of all evils - Power.

HT reports
Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has finally made it clear that he will contest polls on a Samajwadi Party ticket. “Amar Singh is like my
elder brother, I can’t refuse him,” said the actor. ( Watch )

“I want to serve the people of this country... If Navjot Singh Sidhu can contest elections, so can I,”
Looking at Sanjay Dutt, ask myself that what is it that he does not have. He has money, Fame and such a lovely family that supported him during his wrongdoings. Money provokes people to kill, as it did in Pramod Mahajan's murder by his own brother.
The Gandhigiri man has now gone against that very family to help his "brother" Amar Singh. What did Amar Singh do when he was in jail ? This is sad.All I can say is "Power ki jai ho"

Offensive Harry

The recent blooper from a hysteric world comes from none other than Prince Harry. Sometimes the dead and buried stories creep up from nowhere and cause embarrassment. All I can say is that the hard drives containing archives are really of a very good quality.

boston.com reports

Harry, who is an army lieutenant in the Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals, is purported to have made the remarks in 2006 in an airport departure lounge as soldiers waited to travel to Cyprus for training exercises.

The newspaper said in a statement that in the video, Harry referred to one colleague as "our little paki friend" -- using a derogatory term for people of Pakistani origin.

It reported that he called another cadet -- who was wearing a headscarf -- a "raghead." The newspaper said that the video was filmed by other cadets and supplied to the newspaper.

Prince Harry

How to be rich ?

Get rich quick or die trying. Many try to follow this tag, one of them being Mr Ramalinga Raju. I would not suggest you to go on those lines but you can try out this website by Ramit. It's description reads "I Will Teach You To Be Rich Scholarship for Social Innovation"

Social Innovation not exploitation!

Satyamites criticize Infosys

There have been varying reactions by different sects after R Raju confessed his fraud. I remember when Satyam had come to visit my campus they had asked for Rs 2 lakh as security bond. Fortunately most of my batch mates did not join, else they might have lost the money.
Amongst all the companies that came to my college, CSC and Infosys were preferred by most students.

As freshers initially we have a tendency to just get a job, but looking at the current scenario I think all job seekers need to be aware of the company they join. One of my friends who unfortunately joined the group of 53K satyamites feels humiliated to be a part of the company. But there have been others who have criticized other IT firms who have stopped themselves from hiring people from the tainted company. One such letter in the ET says

Hello Mr Mohandas Pai,

Don't degrade Satyam associates to such an extent...Though there are things which have very seriously gone wrong at the higher management level we Satyamites still have hope...Most of them here are much more capable than ur so called Infosians...

Even if ur company is the last option on the Earth we will not join it....better we will remain unemployed.....

During such crisis if you are a true India u would have thought of helping the ppl under crisis...don't make any such statements which will affect the lives of thousands of Indians..

Regards,

A proud Satyamite.

mailkalpu@gmail.com

About Mr Mohandas Pai
[...]During his tenure as CFO, Mohan played a strategic role in transforming Infosys to one of the world’s most respected and widely-known software services companies. He put in place the country’s first publicly articulated financial policy for the company and played a key role in branding the company among the investor community and enhancing transparency and disclosure levels. The Infosys Annual Report, under his supervision, has won the Best Presented Annual Accounts Award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India for ten years in succession as well as from the South Asia Federation of Accountants (2000)[...] Infosys
I would like to defend the company being barraged by a group of Satyamites who have definitely thought from their heart in expressing their views. Infosys is a dream company for most freshers looking to make it big in IT sector. It is a dream not because a college terms it a dream company but because if you go through its selection process, you will realize the transparency. I was one of those lucky ones who cleared the selection process.

Price Waterhouse coopers is also in the thick of action for the auditing. I am sure Price Waterhouse coopers will come out clean because all leads in this story lead to only one story which says that Rs5000 crore in hard cash with Mr Raju and his associates in safe custody of swiss bank.

I'd like to suggest only thing i.e. carefulness has to be shown while joining a company looking at the growing number of corporate frauds and bankrupt companies.

Gilani criticizes Indian intel

Cacophony of a failed state !

Pakistan's PM Yousuf Raza Gilani now comes with another statement blaming the Indian intelligence for Mumbai terror.

IBN live reports
Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said 26/11 was India's intelligence failure and blames the international community of playing favourites.

Gilani

I wonder what the leader wants to suggest. Maybe he is making such statements to strengthen his foothold in the party.

Pakistan power struggles

The power struggles in Pakistan are on full volume. Within the PPP there is a struggle between Zardari and PM Gilani. If sources are to be believed Nawaz Shariff is about to bring a bill, which could restore the powers of the prime minister.

Zardari Gilani fight

IBN Live reports

Gilani is on a high after sacking Mahmud Ali Durrani as Pakistan's National Security Advisor. However, under pressure from the United States of America Zardari may ensure that Gilani's tenure is shortlived.

Durrani's sacking seems to have opened another chapter in Pakistan's history of power struggle and within the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
[...]"He (Durrani) was on the pay roll of the Americans. That report was presented to Prime Minister Gilani and also to President Zardari. It was decided long time ago may be two months ago to remove him and the government was just looking for some excuse," Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir said.

Ajay Devgan fined for smoking

Langda Tyagi is next.

Ajay Devgan

Paying Rs 200 for smoking in public fails to deter 100% - (exceptions) in public. For most of them Rs 200 is nothing, but yes an additional expense.

I talked to a person who knows people responsible for fining. They have daily targets like sales targets and they achieve it easily. I also heard that state governments had deliberately told not to fine smokers till elections (That is what a paan waala told me).

For Ajay and company paying Rs 200 is another way of making news. Maybe some publicity stunt for a new movie.

Unofficial Satyam Associates

A blog Say Satyam has come up with a description, which reads "Yes, we know you read the newspapers. Now read us."

I was hooked on to NDTV after the news of the arrest of Ramalinga Raju broke in. Checking all the speculation being done on television about the imprisonment of Ramlinga Raju and his associates there is a reasonable evidence from the Ramalinga's letter to believe our media this time. The government has dissolved the board of directors of satyam and will form a 10 member independent board. The whole issue does not seem to be a black and white case even after Raju's letter. It is reasonable to believe considering the political clout of Ramalinga Raju that the reality could be murkier. The contradicting thing is that section 120B,409,420,468,471 of the Indian penal code have been imposed on Mr R Raju. The constitution of the 10 member "reputed" board according to PC Gupta (Min of corp affairs) could reveal more.

PM aspirations #2

Youth will win !

Continuation of PM aspirations.

The list of Prime minister hopefuls is long. Today's candidate is Rahul Gandhi. Not according to me but according to Pranab Mukherjee.

Rahul Gandhi

ET reports
Foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday said Congress MP Rahul Gandhi might take over as the prime minister soon, giving
fresh fillip to the speculation about the party’s timeframe for the Gandhi scion’s elevation to the top job.

"The days are not far off when Rahul Gandhi may follow in his father’s footsteps," Mukherjee said at a conference of overseas Indians, adding that Rajiv had become PM at the age of 40. Mukherjee also spoke of other young leaders like new J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah.
My vote goes to him. The things in favour of him are that he is presentable, young and educated. Comparing him with PM hopeful no:1 you would find the difference impossible to bridge, atleast in this life time. Trusting a politician's words can be a complete disaster. Rahul Gandhi has the vote of Pranab da atleast for now. But does he have any PM ambitions ?
Speaking in sync are congress big wigs such as Digvijay singh and party spokesperson Shakil Ahmad. About a year back our SC/ST quota minister(oops! HRD minister) faced censure when he made a remark on Rahul Gandhi as PM.

Politicians are like a jumbo sized plane with a small wheel. It keeps the plane swaying and when it snaps, they fall over.

Bhairon Singh Shekhawat angry

Old man shouts at cloud !

I feel that congress has got away with mismanagement and alleged corruption all because of a weak opposition in form of BJP. The latest bluff in the pack comes from Bhairon Singh Shekhawat (BSS). Lets just go through a quick recap of his past.

CM of Rajastan : 1977 - 1980, 1990 - 1992, and 1993 - 1998.
Former Vice-President of India (he was elected to a five-year term by the electoral college following the death of Krishan Kant.)
Resigned on July 21, 2007, after losing the presidential election to Pratibha Patil.
(courtesy : Wikipedia entry of BSS)

This recount was to show you that BSS is person of stature and can been called as an experienced politician. Being tagged as "experienced politician" calls for some responsibilities as well. But I guess old age has taken its toll on him.

NDTV reports
There is some fresh embarrassment for the BJP. Soon after he announced he was going to contest the Lok Sabha elections, former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat said he was not sure that the BJP's prime ministerial candidate L K Advani could hold the NDA together.

Not just that, he also said Rajnath Singh shouldn't have declared that Advani was the party's undisputed leader.

And causing even more trouble to his party, he has written to Rajasthan's Congress chief minister Ashok Gehlot, asking his to investigate scams during the previous BJP government led by Vasundhra Raje.

"Scams worth Rs22,000 crore have taken place during the tenure of Vasundhra government. I have asked Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot to investigate this scam," he says.

BJP anger

Foul no:1
Accusing another senior party member of being unreasonable.
Foul no:2 Predicting the doomsday of your own party. This is a crim3. How are we supposed to trust such a party.
Foul No:3 Accusing a party member of stature (Vasundhara ji) of corruption. And did I hear you taught her politics ? Do we have any reason to not doubt you. Or did she not pay you ? Or is it right ?

Congress like a batsman in bad form is being served full tosses by BJP bowlers with a school kid kind of experience. Leaving the politics apart, if all this is true, imagine a thief steeling the food of hingry a person.

More than 25% of our population is below poverty line(BPL) and roughly 70% of our population earns about $2 a day. Shame on all these politicians!

Shibu Soren loses election

Bye Bye Old man

Shibu Soren

Shibu Soren, the prisoner turned CM, who had a complete turnaround of fortunes in august last year seems to have had his time in politics. Time to play with your grand children uncle!

Economic times reports

[...]Jharkhand chief minister and JMM supremo Shibu Soren has lost to Gopal Krishna Patar alias Raja Peter of Jharkhand Party (JP) in the Tamar
byelection by over 9,000 votes. This was Mr Soren's worst-ever humiliation in his 40-year old political career[...]

[...]Mr Soren is the second CM in the country to have lost a bypoll. The first was UP CM and later West Bengal governor Tribhuvan Narain Singh who lost the bypoll from Haidergarh in 1971.
Soon after the results were out, Mr Soren said he would leave for New Delhi soon to hold discussions with senior UPA leaders like Ms Sonia Gandhi and Mr Laloo Prasad Yadav, after which he would tender his resignation. [...]

It's time for young blood with new ideas. Omar Abdullah is one such example. I sometimes feel old people are unjust and their reasoning and judgment are lagging (Although it could be that Mr Soren's judgment could be better than mine). For Mr Shibu Soren, the winter winds just blew him off. It would be better for him to take shelter in his den or maybe go for a holiday in hawaii, like Barack Obama. Wot say ?

Scouting for petrol

Oil Shortage

The trucker's strike has created a lot of mess in Delhi. Today I was on my way to work at around 2:00 to same place in CP where I had suffered a parking problem a few days back. I was prepared to meet the same set of people and had left early in their anticipation. But today came another rude shock. My buggy was low on fuel and I thought of getting its tank filled up on my way. The first petrol pump had a barricaded entrance. Well Ok! There might be some problem. But on seeing the same barricades outside the second one, I began to realize the implications of the ganged up truckers. Now the thought of being stranded with a decade old buggy with no fuel crossed my mind.
Even if I reach, how will I come back ? As these doubts came to my mind I encountered a traffic jam at a point where it was least expected. As I took my patient breaths to reduce the panic, I found the oasis of oil where people had jammed up; A petrol pump with petrol. Having no option I too joined the train of buggies low on fuel. After that it was smooth sailing and none of those ego bubbling baboons.

It is sad how a country, an emerging super power seems so weak against the demands of people who gang up, whether regional parties or some associations. I don't really know who is right here; the truckers or the government, but I along with millions of others are suffering.

Pakistan's flip flop

The count of the flip flops in the statements from Pakistan has finally managed to irk our foreign minister, Pranab da. How many more are we to see depends on how many we eliminate. It is clear without doubt that Pakistan army and ISI are calling the shots in Pakistan.

The "elected" government is a puppet like its counter part in India. It remains to be seen whether a Gaza type fate awaits Pakistan or the current actions by our politicians are just an act of a big staged drama for the Lok Sabha polls of 2009.

Security Advice

Twitter Security Meltdown

It has been recently reported that twitter has been plagued by wide spread phishing attacks.
The security failure has resulted in the temporary takeover of Twitter accounts associated with Facebook, Fox News, The Huffington Post, Barack Obama, Britney Spears, and CNN's Rick Sanchez.
This is an advice to all my readers to temporarily not check the twitter account of speak india, i.e. http://twitter.com/speakindia, since you could be vulnerable to a phishing attack. As of now, the twitter account is working fine but it is advisable to stay away from it until twitter takes measures to correct the security fault.

I will inform you when it is safe to check twitter again. Hoping for a safe web browsing experience.

Ramalinga Raju's letter

Ramalinga Raju the ex-chairman of Satyam after having confessed of fraud will need divine intervention to save himself. The last ditch attempt to acquire Maytas to fill in the fictitious assets with real ones has gone horribly wrong. He has precisely summed up his situation in his letter by writing "It was like riding a tiger, not knowing how to get off without being eaten".

Parking misery

Today had another frustrating hour, one of those endless ones I spend here in Delhi. I happened to go to CP (a crowded place in Delhi) for some official work with an appointment at 3 PM. In punctuality I wouldn't be the person to look up to but I managed to reach the place at 2:50, 10 minutes well in advance in my 1999 Maruti buggy. But those minutes of advance planning proved to be too little on a road of babus and baboons.

I genuinely feel most people in Delhi lack general traffic sense and making the road as their private property gives them a big ego boost. One such person was driving a zen in front of my buggy who simply left his car in the middle of the road, already narrowed by the miles of cars parked alongside, like garbage littered near the dumps. He stopped his car in the middle, gave the keys to one of his chamchas who again took his time in taking the car out of the way. Meanwhile a long line of unwanted people like me were honking and getting frustrated.

To add to my woes was another baboon who had stopped his car in the middle and was waiting for his master to arrive; again keeping me and the janta behind me waiting. The result was that I was late by 20 minutes and my work was delayed till 5 PM. The worst part is that you can't do a shit about such people. They do it and will keep doing it. WTF!
Uff! Ab kya karen, yehi hai India meri jaan.

Truckers Strike

Now the government has to appease them else risk losing the election. Over 50 Lakh truckers have protested and got off the roads. The result has been increase in food prices. Their demands are fairly simple, like the ones made by CPI(M) during nuclear deal.
The striking transporters are demanding lowering of diesel prices by Rs 10 per litre and a cut in tyre prices, besides the withdrawal of service tax on truckers.

The truckers' demand list also includes levying uniform 4 percentage point VAT on diesel, scrapping registration and return filing requirements in the new Carriers Act, reducing tyre prices by 30-35 per cent and rolling back national permit fees from Rs 5,000 to Rs 1,500.

Transporters want a moratorium on all instalments and waiver of interest on truck finance for at least six months. (Rediff.com)
In this "who wins","My demands" scenario the sufferer is the common man. But it'll be interesting to see the outcome of this strike.

Dawood and CIA link

There has been one man who has been left out of the extradition list of Pakistani suspects to be handed over to India. That luck boy is the person who is supposed to have financed the Mumbai Terror attacks and also the Indian Mujahideen for the serial bomb blasts that took place in Delhi,Ahmadabad and Bangalore. The reason for Dawood has been left out because of his possible link with the CIA.

Rediff.com reports
Dawood Ibrahim went from underworld kingpin to terrorist in 1993, when he was connected to a series of bombings in Mumbai that resulted in 250 deaths. He is wanted by Interpol and was designated by the US as a global terrorist in 2003.
It Is believed Ibrahim has been residing in Karachi, and Indian officials have accused Pakistan's ISI of protecting him.

Ibrahim is known to be a major drug trafficker responsible for shipping narcotics into the United Kingdom and Western Europe.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, most Afghan opium (or its derivative, heroin, which is increasingly being produced in the country before export) is smuggled through Iran and Turkey en route by land to Europe; but the percentage that goes to Pakistan seems to mostly find its way directly to the UK, either by plane or by ship.

Afghanistan is the world's leading producer of opium, a trend that developed during the CIA-backed mujahedeen effort to oust the Soviet Union from the country, with the drug trade serving to help finance the war.

A known drug trafficker, Dawood Ibrahim is naturally also involved in money laundering, which is perhaps where the role of gambling operations in Nepal comes into the picture.

Yoichi Shimatsu, former editor of the Japan Times, wrote last month after the Mumbai attacks that Ibrahim had worked with the US to help finance the mujahedeen during the 1980s and that because he knows too much about the US's 'darker secrets' in the region, he could never be allowed to be turned over to India.

So is our war on terror still a beggars bowl hoping to get whatever is thrown in or is it a command of an emerging super power.

India Pakistan friendship

Is India-Pakistan friendship possible ? Or is that we've proven out to be a much smarter race to mingle or reconcile with those who left us 61 years back. Maybe this picture explains our eerie reaction reaction to such a friendship. The difference is that the innocent boy is not being repulsive to the truth of a dirty pig. This is one instance where intelligence builds barriers than breaking them, where it changes perceptions than blurring them. I apologize for putting the picture below, but let me make my thoughts clearer. The boy in this picture is Pakistan and the pig is terrorism.

PM aspirations

Mayawati's politics

There are many people today aspiring for the coveted post of Prime Minister of India. One of the contenders is Maywati. I was reading an article yesterday, which compared Mayawati's dreams with that of sheikh Chilli . It talks about her over confidence in winning 50 lok sabha seats in the 2009 elections. The assembly elections held in Novermber in 5 states have acted as a damper to her hopes, but her head remains high. So I don't think the author is wrong in comparing her with Sheilkh Chilli as a role model and an inspiration for Uttar Pradesh. Her confidence is very much valid. If Dr Manmohan Singh can become the PM so can she. Her stars seem to be less favourable in 2009 as her MLA confessed to killing an innocent engineer who refused to part with his hard earned money for Mayawati's birthday donation (Extortion). Maybe her birthday could bring some respite. As for Sheilkh Chilli, I too have been tagged many times for being like him, maybe we all have a part of it in us; it is not alone isolated to Mayawati.

Omar Abdullah sworn in as J&K CM

Omar Abdullah

Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir (11th CM) today. He has taken over the chair of nails of the crown of India. I am quite impressed by the fact that a 38 year old is becoming the CM, a step in favour of the younger power houses. I hope Omar brings in inclusive policies and takes the terror affected state to a higher and safer level (Away from the mandir masjid politics).

Last warning !!!

War Mongering

When this billboard (or similar) gets put up in your city(I hope not), it is time you collect your cash, sell your property and run away as fast as possible. Unfortunately this has been the story for many cities countries like Iraq, Afghanistan and now Gaza. Recently Israel has been attacking the Gaza strip killing scores of people, taking revenge for the bloodshed caused by Hamas in Israel as a result of prolonged terror attacks. I've been a strong proponent of these attacks but now I feel I am mistaken. India's situation is somewhat similar, the only difference is that our reaction is an indicator of the noises created by empty vessels. But I care a damn of who makes the right noises and who speaks the better English or Urdu. I want to live peacefully. I want Pakistanis to live and live happily in their own country and let me live in mine. If another Israel-Gaza happens between India and Pakistan (the nuclear touch), nobody will ever live in peace. So friends, lets have fun with 3 Bs-Beer,Babes and Beach.

Bongress

I was discussing this with a friend of mine today and fortunately, in my online world I came across this wonderful image of the cross breed of Lion and Tiger called Liger. (This is the largest Ligress in the world)

With this idea, what if we crossbreed our political parties say BJP + Congress ? Bongress
Bongress might just come up with a bang. The cooperate to Dominate (c2d) strategy! If they don't somebody else might just eat the pie.

Maya chaal

The current political scenario in India is completely in favour of regional parties. Congress has smartly made a manageable structure and is running its party better than its rival BJP. But looking closely at the PM aspirations, it seems somebody else is riding these bulls. See pic below

Mayawati's politics

Nuclear solution ?

Is this a solution to the current terror crisis ?

At the end of it, a US report says there could be a nuclear war between India and Pakistan. But do we want it ? My answer no. And nobody wants it. At the times of Chernobyl tragedy the radiation levels were high in Europe. It is sheer foolish destruction of humanity.

Fireman Kalam

He (Missile Man) gave India the firepower to use the power hidden in an atom to be unleashed over any other country creating destruction on an unimaginable scale. He gave India, the much needed fire to intimidate hostile/rogue nations. Now he speaks about his opinion on the possible Indian strategy on dismantling terror outfits with TOI .

[...]Firstly, a vigorous national campaign, involving every citizen, should be launched to tackle the terror menace, he said interacting with students here.

Secondly, Kalam advocated carrying out raids to destroy terror hideouts both inside and outside the country.

"Terror can be eliminated by raiding and smashing militant hideouts both inside and outside the country," he said.

Lastly, there was need for speedy trial of cases relating to terrorism to punish perpetrators of such crimes, he said.[...]

He surely can teach a lesson to our communal politicians who talk about mandir and masjid. I'd like to quote Shobhaa De's statement "Doomb mat hilao.Kuch kar ke dikhao." Hadh ki bhi ek hadh hoti hai! Patience is running out and the immaculate Hindi, English and Urdu of Pakistan's leaders is just adding salt to our fresh wounds.

Where is Britney ?

Another Jabber
Britney Spears, the girl I had a crush on as a teen is in the Indian news media for being omnipresent. But hey where is she ? And what do you expect for an answer. Maybe she is dating another side dancer, or may be her school friend or maybe ... could be anybody... A playboy from pakistan... Lots of speculations Hmm...
But the lamest of all answers was that she was recently in India (when actually she was not). When an international celebrity goes missing, where could he/she be ? On a religious trip for mental peace to India. The Indian media makes a big deal when a Hollywood star or a pop star comes to India. whats so big in that ? Can't they come without all the hype. Some written off celeb comes to India and the media swarms him as if George Bush has arrived. Will they bless us all by coming to India ? Some hangovers seem to stay forever with a few journalists hoping to make a name by cooking birbal ki khichardi with extra salt.
Ok! lets move ahead with another myth. She is dating some Sandeep Soparrkar, an unheard of choreographer. When I heard the whole story at first I thought it was one of her quick forget sexual trips, which have been her feature lately. But heeeyyy!!! There was nothing to it. No Soap-err-Kar.
Anyways, media is doing good job with the follow up of Mumbai terror, but sadly their entertainment section is going the India TV way.

Monkeycap MLA

It is bone-chillingly cold here in Delhi and so is the weather in UP. No different is the current alleged extortion by MLAs of BSP. One such MLA is Shekhar Tiwari, who has confessed his involvement in killing an engineer after he was not given the money for Mayawati's birthday. As, I was watching a news channel, this news broke out and the ashamed MLA was standing with the cops wearing a Monkey Cap. This is another quick action against the heinous crimes by the people we vote for, the people in power. Whether justice is given or not will test the character of the judiciary.
Moreover, there are reports that suggest that the MLA was in constant touch with Didi (Mayawati ji). Err... So was she hiding a criminal ?
Another point of concern is the police. Hoshiyar Singh, an SO of UP police spent 9 out of 19 years in Auraiya and it is said that despite of several cases lodged against the criminal MLA, there was virtually no action taken.
I had heard somewhere that animal rights activists had a problem with killing of monkeys that got wild by the municipal authorities. Well for such a monkey man, they should not have any problem.

Indo-Pak nuclear war: How it could begin

The US intelligence agency had predicted way back in 1998 of a nuclear war that could take place between India and Pakistan, because of Pak army supported insurgency in Kashmir. At that time conditions were different. Today the conditions are more-less same as what the US think tank had suggested as a possible outcome in a report published by DNA.

Pakistan is still defiant on handing over the terrorists. The reasons being their power galore in Pakistan. It is known(in Pakistan) that the dreaded terrorist Maulana Masood Azhar is behind Benazir Bhutto's assassination. But despite all this knowledge there is little control of Pak president Asif Ali Zardari on Pakistan and hence he has to abet terror else risk his and his son's life.At the same time there is a pressure mound building up over the UPA government and Lok Sabha elections of 2009 are nearing.

A possible consequence: UPA government orders deployment of special small forces on border. Pakistani insurgents attack Indian army camps near the border. In retaliation, Indian army crosses the LOC in a counter attack and a full fledged war begins. With Air and artillery support, Indian army reaches Lahore. Pakistan's air force is nulled by surface to air missiles. Pakistan fearing its nuclear arsenal would be destroyed, tries to intimidate India by unleashing a small fission bomb over the Indian Army. India fires back a bigger nuclear bomb. Pakistan in return launches Ghauri class missile with a 20 tonne nuclear payload. India responds by a 200 tonne nuclear bomb. War Game over. Pakistan surrenders. UN peace keeping force arrives.

It seems to be a gloomy prognosis for this fight against terror. I have my reasons, which I'd be explaining in future posts, on why Pakistan will never handover terrorists and a war would be inevitable.

US government does a U-turn

The US government has done a U turn on the extradition of the terror suspects, Dawood Ibrahim, Maulana Masood Azhar and Zakiur Rehman lakhvi. The United States has said that the terror suspects should be tried in Pakistan rather than India. This makes it a complete U-turn from the earlier proposal to extradite these criminals of humanity. The US interests of the war against Taliban on the north western frontier of Pakistan are clearly the main reason. It is strange that Indian government still is sitting like a duck waiting to be pounded over by the terrorists.

Our government's cries are getting lamer by the day and I feel my self respect being hurt like that of every other Indian. My blood burns when I see our esteemed politicians doing nothing but pressurizing pakistan with a set of confusing and misleading words. The occasional tough look on Pranab Mukherejee's face or the grin laden Mr Politically Correct (P Chidambaram) does not give any sense of a crisis situation. Atleast Mr Pranab does not bother much about his hair, although he has a few of them. Our previous poster boy of home ministry, Mr Shivraj Patil, was a dainty man but he spent much of his time dallying with the idea of what to wear for the next "Sorry, we could not protect you" statement. On the contrary Mr P Chidambaram seems less of a fashion conscious person, but he will have to learn from Israel's reaction. The final decision rests in the hands of the Congress Working Committee. After the Mumbai terror attacks there hasn't been much of a change apart from a few characters being shuffled. Lets see do we go on Israel's path or not. Our reaction has been frustratingly slow and there seems to be sign of no improvement.

Israel type reaction for India ?

There has been a lot of speculation over the correctness of Israel's reaction of the attacks on Gaza strip that has killed over 350 people. The UN general secretary Ban Ki Moon has also criticized these killings. I don't really understand this reaction. On one hand we condemn such attacks and on the other we also condemn a counter attacks. Mahatma Gandhi's days are long gone now. If you have an electric chair for a murderer, you should have a rocket for a terror group.

"We have strongly criticised that attack and we have urged Israel to stop those attacks" Mr P C (Palaniappan Chidambaram) (Politically Correct). What else can you do. Urge.
I feel our dominance in the world is merely limited to asking, pleading. I know the humiliation Maharaja Ranjt Singh would have felt watching our honourable PM Mr Manmohan Singh. I mean, where is the aggression ? Forget aggression, atleast assertion. But yes he shows a V (that too improper) after the UPA got the nuclear deal through. Anyways, I am a strong supporter of Israel's attack. I am prepared to die in a war against the terrorists that being fired from behind by a Islamic fanatic group having dinner with my family.

Previous post
Israel and India on terror : Israel bombed the Gaza strip for the fourth day today killing over 300 people in Gaza. Hamas had ended the cease-fire with Israel after they fired rockets over Israel. Israel’s general has indicated that they are going for an all out attack to capture the Gaza strip.

Guwahati serial blasts : A deep cut

Terrorism sponsored by Pakistan will never stop. They are hell bent on killing innocent civilians , who in no way intend to harm or damage Pakistan. My simple questions to these criminals of humanity is, Are we doing any harm to you ?
The latest in the list is Guwahati serial blast that took place today injuring 30. This takes the tally to 17 terror attacks under the rule of UPA government. It is humiliating for me to read this everyday. Our government only wants to play politics. They just want Maulana Masood Azhar, the same person who was released by the BJP government during the IC 814 hijack. All this so that in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections they can say, see we brought him back.
A nations pride all in the name of "Bull Shit politics". I care a damn today of who comes in power. I would be least bothered even if Mayawati becomes prime minister. Atleast, she'll be a prime minister with her own voice and not merely a puppet leader.
NIA and the UAPA have been passed in what can be called a blitzkrieg decision. But they (terrorists) are a step ahead. They have worked faster.
I&B wing just seems like a waste of the tax payers money. Neither are they a doing something, nor are their pays justified.
It feels even worse, when the defence chiefs, particularly Genral Deepak Kapoor are voicing their opinion on the salaries, rather than giving some useful info on the current crisis. I appreciate Genral Kiyani of Pakistan for atleast having a commanding opinion. Our chiefs have made themselves merely as a pawns of the government.
It remains to be seen whether the Indian leaders can change our status from being a bagful of loudspeakers to a country with solid force. I wish if Indira Gandhi had been alive today. She would have not thwarted the self respect of a billion Indians.

NIA comes into effect

NIA has come into effect from today. WoW! what a beginning to 2009. When, I look back at the swiftness of the pass of the bill, it seems like a corporate management has taken over the Indian democracy. The National Investigation Agency got the assent of the president, Shmt Pratibha Patil. I don't think there would have been much of problem there. Our presidents are mere puppets. What matters for India is in the hands of MPs with criminal records who have the votes. I can go on barraging my words filled with disgust on politicians, but lets be positive on the first day. The home minister, P Chidambaram and president Mrs Patil have also given a go ahead to the UAPA (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Bill), which includes some rather strong anti-terror preventions bill. More over, the vacancies in the Intelligence Bureau are also being filled up on a priority basis. The home minister has also said that they'll be procuring 20,000 bullet proof jackets for police. On the face of it, it looks good. But is this sufficient to protect a 1.5 billion Indians ?

Omar Abdullah's flip side

Omar Abdullah is all set to be India's youngest chief minister, has played his cards well at the right time. Remember his nuclear deal speech. The speech was a perfect draft of a careful plan before the assembly elections where Omar knew, he would need the support of the anti-national muslim votes as well as the support of the PDP aligned congress. These words have dissected Omar's plans well in advance has got seemingly close to hitting the bulls eye. I've edited the parts where the description goes communal. Don't take it as a hatred galore, there are valid facts pointed out by the author.
The rhetoric-laden speech is high on the dope of empty emotions. There are canards galore in every line of this short speech. The message is clear. With the Congress likely to be routed in Hindu dominated Jammu in the year-end assembly elections, the NC needs to forge an electoral understanding with the PDP.
But the PDP has lost and is out in cold after the JKNC and Congress forged an alliance. It was a victory both ways for the Abdullah sons after Omar opened options for forging alliance with PDP. Well either was the bigger picture shows that it is advantage Congress. After the surprising win in 2004, they have played the game of diplomacy well with a bunch of seasoned politicos.
Moreover why does Omar Abdullah in his polemic raise the issue in 2008 after having comfortably enjoyed the NDA government’s hospitality? As for his ludicrous assertion “ki hum mandir nahi girate” he should be aware that his co-religionists had destroyed over 80,000 Hindu-Buddhist-Jaina temples since the beginning of Islamic colonization of India. For instance, Harsha of Kashmir, a Hindu convert to Islam left only four temples standing in the valley. The site of desecrated Devi temples in Kashmir had caused so much anguish to Swami Vivekananda that he had bitterly exclaimed “The Mohammedans came and destroyed your temples. Why mother, you cannot even protect yourself?”

The greatest setback in this entire episode is the eradication of any hope for peace and normality to return to Kashmir since what Mr Omar Abdullah has done is isolate even the last remnants of sanity from the valley in the form of those liberal Muslim voices who were in favour of restoring the land to the Amarnath board.
I had a few colleagues who were from Jammu and with their insights I had written about the Amarnath issue and the fact that kashmiris are treated like VIPs and given far more privileges than the people of Jammu. Now that BJP has made its presence felt on the J&K assembly, there is more likelihood of the Jammu and Kashmir divide being more vociferous and clear.

Dhoni : Z+ security ?

Does Dhoni need a Z+ security ?

My answer
:  Yes, he needs security. He is indispensable.

Here is what orkutistaan has to say

Mythili: Does Dhoni need Z+ security?
Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is unhappy with his Z security and it has been upgraded to Z+ security by the jharkhand govt. but does he really require it?

JIGSTHAKUR: In India public need z+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ security [very true]

* Z+ category has a security cover of 36 personnel.
* Z category has has a security cover of 22 personnel.
* Y category has a security cover of 11 personnel.
* X category has a security cover of 2 personnel.

sLuMdOg: This is a nice way to waste so much of our army men for just 1 man's security...huh.... [Are you sure ?]

Raakeshㅤ: Joginder sharma needs it.... [A drunk bowler certainly does not]

Đ ЅэɔЯт Z ѕтïℓ: Kapil as well.! [Kapil Dev,the haryanvi jaat can be a part of the secuity team for sure. Nopes just joking. He might not need. The terrorists won't be interested in him]

Obama routs the: Afzal Guru should be given Z++ category security [No use. Indian ministers might just escort him to pakistan, remember IC814 highjacking]

OD: debashish mohanty n nikhil chopra shud get z+ [Crap]

The Indian junta feels Dhoni does not need Z+, or atleast this group feels so.
